A nature group is lobbying the province to do its part to help Canada meet an "ambitious" conservation goal.
Ontario Nature was registered in-house by Caroline Schultz, their executive Director. The goal of their lobbying effort was to advocate that the Government of Ontario take action to meet the new national target of protecting at least 30 per cent of the province's lands and waters by 2030. This includes asking the government to implement the key recommendations of its protected areas working group. More specifically, they are seeking a process to establish Indigenous protected and conserved areas, to protect candidate protected areas identified through the forest stewardship council certification process, and to protect priority candidate protected areas identified across Ontario.
In a blog post on their website, Ontario Nature said the 30 per cent goal is "an ambitious target, and one that Ontario must contribute to if Canada is going to meet it."
