An advocacy group with the goal of protecting the Greenbelt is lobbying at Queen's Park.
The Greenbelt Foundation and Greenbelt Fund were registered in-house by Edward McDonnell, their CEO. The main advocacy goal of the Greenbelt Foundation was to communicate with government officials regarding implementation of the Greenbelt Plan, specifically matters relating to the restoration and enhancement of natural resource systems, as well as enhancement of sustainable tourism in Ontario's Greenbelt. An additional topic of discussion was to increase support for farming and the rural economy, which ties into the lobbying done on behalf of the Greenbelt Fund. The focus there was to encourage and provide support to Ontario's agriculture and agri-food sector by increasing the amount of local food purchased across Ontario in the broader public sector and in the marketplace, leading to expanded opportunities and new jobs in the agriculture and agri-food sectors.
