Trump’s win is a lesson for Canadian Liberals

The job of Trudeau’s Liberals over the next year is to legitimately respond to the issues that truly motivate Canadians at the ballot box. What happened this week was a cautionary tale, let’s not make the same mistakes.

Trump’s win is a lesson for Canadian Liberals

Watching the U.S. election results roll in made for a humbling experience. Donald Trump achieved a rare victory for a Republican – winning both the electoral college and the popular vote. He performed better than he did back in 2016, with more than 70 million Americans casting their ballot for him. That is significant by any measure.

Many will try to attribute Trump’s victory to America just not being ready for a Black woman as president or dismiss it as evidence of an uneducated, racist populace. While these arguments have merit, they fail to grapple with a deeper issue here: the left just cannot seem to get their finger on the pulse of the average voter. This shortcoming is not exclusive to the United States.
