Doug Ford says it's the whole reason he opted to call a snap election in the dead winter, more than a year earlier than scheduled.

The need for a supermajority mandate from voters to respond to U.S. President Donald Trump's threatened 25 per cent tariffs on most Canadian exports.

They were supposed to go into effect this week but Trump has postponed them for at least 30 days.
