Her comments come in response to mounting pressure from municipal leaders who have sought provincial intervention to address the growing number of encampments.

Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles has firmly ruled out the use of the notwithstanding clause to remove homeless encampments, saying she will tackle the issue through housing solutions instead.

Speaking to QP Briefing Thursday, Stiles criticized Premier Doug Ford’s approach to homelessness, saying that his government’s policies have exacerbated the crisis.

"Yesterday we announced that we're going to end encampments by addressing the issue of homelessness with homes,” she said.
