A motion from NDP Leader Marit Stiles to reverse the speaker's ban on the wearing of keffiyehs in the legislature failed to win unanimous consent despite support from Premier Doug Ford and Ontario Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie.

Stiles presented the motion Thursday morning, hoping the House would unanimously agree that the keffiyeh be recognized as “a culturally significant clothing item to many in Ontario’s Palestinian, Muslim and Arab communities [...] and therefore should be permitted to be worn in the House.”

The motion failed after at least one MPP was heard voicing their opposition. Toronto PC MPP Robin Martin later told reporters they voted against unanimous consent, saying the ban was an appropriate move by the speaker.
