Barrie Mayor Alex Nuttall says opposition from Springwater Township to a proposed boundary adjustment could cause the region to lose out on opportunities from the new multi-billion dollar Honda manufacturing facilities and other major industrial projects.

He said the lack of available industrial land in Barrie meant the region couldn't bid for the new Honda plants and the failure to reach a deal on boundary changes threatens to upend any efforts to attract spillover opportunities from the company's $15-billion expansion in Alliston.

"The City of Barrie has been and continues to be working with the province to ensure that any and all facets of the expansion to Honda have an opportunity to locate here, including up and down the supply chain," Nuttall said in an interview on Friday.
