Premier Ford vows ‘maximum pain’ in response to Trump’s tariffs

Ford also said he plans to meet with Canadian auto executives, including representatives from General Motors, Ford, Toyota, and Volkswagen, to assess the potential impact and seek assurances that their investments in Ontario will remain secure.

Premier Doug Ford is warning that Donald Trump's proposed auto tariffs will backfire on American consumers and says Ontario will not hesitate to retaliate.

Speaking to reporters at Queen’s Park this Friday after President Trump announced 25 per cent tariffs on all non-U.S. made cars, Ford said the province is bracing for the impact. The premier vowed Ontario would not "roll over" and called on the federal government to take action.

"We aren’t going to roll over. We’re going to retaliate, and [Trump] is going to feel the pain from the American people," Ford said. "This will drive up costs for American consumers and put jobs at risk in both countries."
