Premier Doug Ford on Thursday shut down rumours about his government moving to permit fourplexes as-of-right across the province, saying opposition from residents would be too significant.
Both the provincial Liberals and Greens have called on Ford to permit the construction of fourplexes without requiring additional municipal approvals. It was also a recommendation by his government's housing affordability taskforce and something the Trudeau government has called on municipalities to put forward in exchange for accessing funding from its housing accelerator fund.
But on Thursday, the premier ruled out the idea, crediting the decision to push back from residents.
