Some Ontario civil servants are getting a 6.5 per cent pay raise after a three-year wage freeze imposed by Bill 124 was overturned by the courts.
The pay raise came after negotiations between the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) and the Ford government, and the final decision was made this weekend.
The extra pay was a response to a “reopener” clause present in the contract signed in 2022, which at the time was under the Bill 124. When this law was deemed unconstitutional by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice later that year, the renegotiation process was triggered.
