Ontario scrapping sick notes and investing in AI tool to tackle administrative burden on family doctors

The province’s plan is to have the minister of labour to table legislation to amend Ontario’s labour laws so employers would be prohibited from asking for a sick note for the three days of sick leave the majority of workers have in Ontario.

The Ford government announced Wednesday it's scrapping sick note requirements for short absences to try to reduce the heavy administrative burden on doctors.

Health Minister Sylvia Jones said that legislation will be introduced to remove the requirement that workers need to present a sick note from a doctor for the provincially protected three days of sick leave workers are entitled to.

“Our government is making common sense changes that will reduce the administrative burden on family doctors so that they can spend more time caring for patients instead of doing duplicative or unnecessary paperwork,” Jones said.
