A group of senior engineers employed by the Ontario government has launched its first strike action in 35 years, warning that ongoing infrastructure projects could soon face significant delays if a deal is not reached.
The Professional Engineers Government of Ontario (PEGO), representing around 600 engineers responsible for critical government projects, began a work-to-rule campaign on October 8 after 20 months without a contract.
These engineers oversee the province's largest infrastructure initiatives, from highway expansions and new route constructions to managing Ontario’s 400-series highways, which includes the Ontario Line subway, Highway 413 and the Bradford Bypass, besides environmental regulations and building codes.
