Ontario political parties weigh in on delay of MAiD expansion

Most provinces — including Ontario — requested an "indefinite pause" of plans to expand access to MAiD. The feds announced earlier this week that the expansion would be delayed, but wouldn't commit to cancelling it.

The Ford government and most opposition parties are supporting Ottawa's decision to hit the brakes on expanding medical assistance in dying (MAID) to those suffering solely from mental health issues.

The Official Opposition NDP said the provincial party supports the move by the Trudeau government, claiming more consultation is needed before moving forward.

“We’ve seen critical health care funding cuts and underinvestment in mental health under successive Liberal and Conservative governments," read a statement from the party.
