The Ford government is officially reversing the controversial opening of Ontario’s Greenbelt for housing developments after a year of public outcry and on the heels of a criminal investigation.
Following a year of blunders that saw the resignation of two top cabinet ministers and the housing minister’s chief-of-staff, the Progressive Conservative government on Monday tabled the Greenbelt Statute Law Amendment Act, which will return 2,994 hectares removed from the Greenbelt last November.
“We are following through on our commitment to fully restore these lands and provide enhanced protections to the Greenbelt moving forward,” said Paul Calandra, minister of municipal affairs and housing.
