Ontario mayors' caucus passes encampments motion

The Ontario Big City Mayors (OBCM) caucus, which represents 29 municipalities across the province, passed a motion Friday urging upper levels of government to take "intervenor status" in court cases affecting their ability to manage encampments.

The motion, as first reported by QP Briefing, calls for coordinated efforts between municipalities and provincial and federal governments to find long-term solutions, including improved access to mental health services and more affordable housing.

“We cannot continue to criminalize homelessness,” said Whitby Mayor Elizabeth Roy.
