Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy says the province will align with the federal government’s recently proposed two-month GST holiday by removing the provincial tax from eligible items.
The measure is expected to deliver nearly $1 billion in savings for families, the government says.
The federal GST holiday, set to run from December 14, 2024, to February 15, 2025, was introduced by the federal government as part of broader affordability measures. It targets some specific consumer goods, including children's clothing, toys, prepared meals, and alcoholic beverages.
