Ontario Liberals begin filling out their ballots this weekend to determine the next leader of a party hoping to recover from two of the worst election performances back-to-back in nearly 80 years.
On Saturday and Sunday, registered Ontario Liberal Party members will cast ballots, trying to answer the question which candidate has the best chance of defeating Premier Doug Ford and the Progressive Conservatives after failing to even achieve official party status in the previous two provincial elections.
Four candidates remain in the race with Mississauga Mayor and former Liberal MP Bonnie Crombie the perceived front-runner, along with Kingston and the Island MPP Ted Hsu and a coalition of Liberal MPs Nasir Yaqvi and Nate Erskine-Smith looking to take advantage of the party’s ranked vote system to push Crombie further down the ballot.
