Ontario Liberals are gathering in Hamilton this weekend for their first major meeting since the 2022 election. As someone who represented the party for 11 years at Queen’s Park, I am worried about its future direction.
Sure, a big part of my concern is tied to the shellackings the party suffered at the polls in the last two elections.
But beyond poor election showings, the danger is that the Ontario Liberal Party might start down the road of becoming a permanent opposition party. By that, I mean a party whose raison d’être is not to form government but to criticize those that do and provide a home for a vocal minority that is content with that role.
