Ontario's provincial government is changing course on its decision to dissolve Peel Region.
After introducing legislation earlier this year that would see Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon become standalone municipalities, Municipal Affairs Minister Paul Calandra announced on Wednesday that advice from the province's transition board suggests breaking up the region is not the most prudent course of action.
"Our goal in reviewing Peel’s governance [is to provide] the highest level of service at the lowest cost to taxpayers," Calandra told reporters. "In response to advice of experts...it is clear full dissolution of Peel is not the best way to achieve this goal."
