Ford pushes for Ontario to be 'first in line' for U.S. tariff exemptions

Ford said he believes attitudes had softened after his meeting. "I think he [Lutnick] has totally toned it down," he said of U.S. officials, adding that Ontario’s priority is to be recognized as a "tier one" trading partner.

Premier Doug Ford says he will keep positioning his government as a key player in Canada’s response to looming U.S. trade tariffs.

On Tuesday, he said Ontario must be "first in line for exemptions."

Speaking to reporters at Queen’s Park following his meeting with U.S. officials last week, Ford said his recent visit was "very, very productive," and that without his intervention, "that meeting would have never happened."
