Premier Doug Ford is doubling down on his government’s efforts to clear homeless encampments.
After mentioning in his victory speech this Thursday that the people of Ontario had said yes to giving municipalities the authority to remove people from public spaces, he doubled-down this Monday on moving forward with passing the Safer Municipalities Act, the bill that promised tougher penalties for people committing repetitive-trespassing and camping on public areas and refusing to seek help for mental health and addiction issues.
The bill had been shelved before the election, but passing it was part of Ford’s PCs election platform.
