The Ford government appears to be committed to moving forward with the bill aimed at dismantling homeless encampments.
New Housing and Legislative Affairs Minister Rob Flack said Tuesday that the legislation will indeed be used, after Paul Calandra, his predecessor who is now the education minister, described it as a last resort in a recent interview.
Speaking to reporters at Queen’s Park on Monday, Flack said the government is prepared to pass the Safer Municipalities Act, which would give the province the authority to override municipalities that don’t take action to clear encampments in public spaces.
