Ford backs federal plan, warns Trump’s tariffs could devastate Ontario jobs

A report from BMO Economics estimated that an across-the-board 25 per cent tariff could slash nearly two percentage points from Canada’s GDP growth. Ontario, heavily reliant on manufacturing exports to the U.S., stands to be hit particularly hard.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford shifted from criticism to endorsement of the federal plans addressing border security and looming trade tensions with the United States.

Speaking to reporters this Tuesday afternoon at Queen’s Park with federal Minister of Finance and Intergovernamental Affairs Dominic LeBlanc following a meeting to xxx, Ford said that the federal government is pouting forward a “phenomenal plan.”

He had previously accused the federal government of being disorganized and failing to provide clear solutions for countering Trump's aggressive trade policies.
