Premier Doug Ford says Canada must stop relying on the United States for energy security and build pipelines across the country — on the condition that the steel and pipes are made in Ontario.
Speaking to reporters Thursday during an announcement of new legislation to speed up mine construction in the province, Ford criticized decades of what he called political inaction on pipelines, saying it’s left Canada vulnerable to U.S. interests.
“We cannot rely on the U.S. any longer,” he said. “Every politician across this country, every federal politician, every provincial politician, should have been building the pipelines — west, north up towards Hudson Bay, and east, over to Sarnia and the Irving refinery in New Brunswick.”
