A cabinet member in Ontario Premier Doug Ford's Progressive Conservative government has resigned to seek a federal seat with Pierre Poilievre's Conservative party.

Red Tape Reduction Minister Parm Gill says he has been urged by community members in his Milton riding west of Toronto to join Poilievre.

The former federal lawmaker says he is motivated to take down Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the next election.
