With only two days left until the U.S. administration discloses its plan to impose tariffs that can make doors close in the Canadian auto sector, Flavio Volpe, president of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association, said that Premier Doug Ford is ”doing a public service” standing up against Trump.
Although he doesn’t think that the Premier should be negotiating directly with U.S. representatives since he is not part of the federal government, Volpe said Ford has executed a crucial role in putting the Canadian message out there and standing up for the auto industry, especially being vocal about it on American media.
“ I think it's been beyond helpful. We very much appreciate his proactive leadership audience,” Volpe said.
