Ontario Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie defended her party's slate of candidates amidst a series of ongoing controversies surrounding current nominees.
Crombie faced several questions about her party's vetting process for prospective Liberal candidates during a press conference in Ottawa on Monday. Last week, Crombie suspended the campaign of Viresh Bansal, the Liberal candidate for Oshawa, who called Prime Minister Justin Trudeau "gay" in a 2023 post on social media.
Bansal issued a public apology, but Crombie said there remained "a bubbling of issues" that prompted the party to re-interview him before deciding to suspend his campaign.
